21 March 2019: Sandeep Lamichhane has revealed that the tips he received from one of the greatest bowlers in the history of cricket, Shane Warne, gave “a huge boost” to his fast-rising career.
The young leg-spinner from Nepal is undoubtedly the most prolific international sports personality the Himalayan nation has ever produced.
Mr Lamichhane reportedly met up with Shane Warne during IPL 2018 when the Australian legend gave him a number of useful tips to hone his cricketing skills. The most important being, in his own words, to bowl with a “big and brave heart”.
The 18-year-old Nepalese cricketer appreciated that the Indian Premier League gave him the opportunity to catch up with the former Australian ODI captain – his biggest idol.
“I met him last season where he gave me certain tips to improve my bowling, which also gave me a huge boost in my career,” Mr Lamichhane was quoted as saying by India Today, “However, I believe, the most important advice that he gave me was to make sure that I bowl with a big and brave heart.”
Speaking to media following Delhi Capitals’ second friendly T20 match on Wednesday, the Nepalese cricketer complained about the lack of “facilities” back in Kathmandu. There are just not enough platforms in Nepal to keep himself well-practiced, he indicated.
It is a “struggle” whenever he is back at home as he does not get enough exposure to “competitive international cricket”, he remarked. Therefore, he wants to make the most when he gets to play these big leagues.
Mr Lamichhane fulfilled his longtime dream when he represented Melbourne Stars in the 2018-19 KFC Big Bash League.
