UK court jails Nepalese man for sex offences against 13-year-old schoolgirl

26 February 2018: A Nepalese man will serve almost a decade in UK jail after a jury found him guilty of vicious sexual offences against a 13-year-old girl.

Police said an investigation on Mr Rayamajhi’s crimes was launched in 2017. The 45-year-old man was living in the English town of Barnsley at the time.

According to South Yorkshire Police, Dil Bahadur Rayamajhi is now “serving almost a decade behind bars for child sex offences committed in Barnsley over a period of three-years”.

An investigation was launched, police said in a press release, when the young girl Mr Rayamajhi had abused raised concerns with her school supervisor.

A jury found Mr Rayamajhi guilty of the offences on 25 February.

“The school reported the concerns to police and after speaking to the victim, who was under the age of 13 at the time the offences occurred, our investigation in to Rayamajhi began,” South Yorkshire Police said in the press release.

“Rayamajhi denied the offences he was charged with, which were one count of assault by penetration and four counts of sexual touching, meaning his victim had to endure the ordeal of recounting what Rayamajhi had subjected her to,” the police press release further added.

Authorities have praised the victim “for the immense bravery and courage she has shown in telling someone what happened to her”.
