21 January 2019: Despite scathing comments and complaints by some of Nepal’s most powerful political heavyweights, former king Gyanendra Shah remains unfazed as he continues to visit district after district.
Just weeks after his much-publicised Pokhara visit, Mr Shah’s personal secretariat announced on Sunday that the ex-king would now be heading to the towns of Simara and Damak in the east.
According to a statement emailed by his press secretary Phani Pathak, Mr Shah and former queen Komal Shah will next week visit Simara followed by Damak.
Despite protests, the former king has not stopped speaking his mind or visiting various districts prompting speculations as to why the last king of the Shah dynasty remains so confident.
Hundreds of his staunch supporters mobbed him in December as he arrived at the Pokhara Airport. During his stay in the lake city, he had meetings with a number of his supporters including the chairperson of the pro-monarchy Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Kamal Thapa.
