Body believed to be that of missing 26 year-old Nepali student has been found “under a rock ledge”

16 February 2017: Lifeguards have located a man’s body Thursday afternoon at the far end of Maroubra Beach, the tragic site where body of Nepali student Shristi Bhandari was found washed up early Tuesday morning.

The body is believed to be that of missing 26 year old Nepali student Sudip Upreti.

According to a police statement, officers from Police Divers, Marine Area Command and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter had resumed a co-ordinated search for the man Thursday morning.

Mr Upreti was believed to be with Ms Bhandari and had been missing since Tuesday, triggering a massive search operation by NSW Police and other authorities.

“About midday the body of a man was found by lifeguards under a rock ledge at Mahon Pools.”

“The body is yet to be formally identified.”

“Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.”

Sudip Upreti hailed from Jhapa district in eastern Nepal.
