Indian-origin man jailed for secretly filming couple in bathroom for his own “sexual gratification”

parramatta-local-court1 December 2016: A 29 year old man of Indian origin has been sent to jail for secretly filming a married couple, also from India, whom he shared his Harris Park unit with.

Facts tendered in the court revealed that Rubinder Singh planted a spy camera (fitted inside a clock) in his bathroom to stream live footage onto his mobile phone and masturbated, an AAP report published by 7News said today.

Media reports suggested that the unsuspecting couple were new in the country when they began living with the perpetrator last year; he had used Gumtree to advertise vacancy at his unit.

The offences reportedly took place between December last year and April this year with the couple reporting the incident earlier this year.

The husband of the 31 year old female victim expressed disbelief that Rubinder Singh could do this to him and his wife, whom he called “sister”. SBS reported that the man, also 31, found out about the hidden camera in his bathroom only when he learnt about a spy camera that looked like the one he had seen in his bathroom.

According to the report published by 7News, magistrate George Zdenkowski described the offences as “an extreme and disgusting violation of their rights to privacy so you could achieve sexual gratification”.

Magistrate Zdenkowski jailed the man for six months. He was further sentenced to two year good behaviour bond because police also found child pornography in his mobile.

He told police that the video of the Indian couple was a “common video shared among the Indian community”.

Rubinder Singh was arrested last June after the couple reported the incident to police.
