Nepal-born holy man Acharya Balkrishna becomes India’s 44th richest person worth US$ 3.82 billion

Acharya Balkrishna, whose nationality was a matter of CBI investigation in July 2012, has entered the Hurun India Rich List 2016 as the 26th richest person in the world’s largest democracy.

Mr Balkrishna is the CEO of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, a mammoth FMCG company that was formed five years ago solely on the strength and popularity of one man – the celebrity yoga teacher Baba Ramdev. The two are said to have first met at Khanpur Gurukul in Haryana state where the now billionaire was a junior of Baba Ramdev.

The 44 year old Nepal-born man reportedly owns 93% of Patanjali. He heads in excess of 30 companies, it is said.

Hurun Report, a Shanghai-based publication, recently released the rich list which consists of 399 Indian personalities. Mr Balkishna has been ranked the 26th with an estimated property worth Rs. 25,000 crore which some Indian media outlets put at US $3.82 billion.

According to a Times of India report from from July 2012, Mr Balkrishna’s real name is Narayan Prasad Subedi who is originally from Bharuwa village in Nepal’s Syangja district. He was born to Jay Ballav (father) and Sumitra Devi (mother) and attended the local school in the village, the Tej Pragati Prarthamik Vidyalaya.
