A Nepalese diplomat in Saudi Arabia has been knifed in a dramatic attack inside his Riyadh-based office. Our Kathmandu correspondent said Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has already confirmed the attack but failed to identify the attacker who also is a Nepalese national.
Motive behind the brazen attack is not yet known, reports said.
The victim, Ananda Prasad Sharma, is the Charge d’Affaires at the Nepalese diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia. He is currently understood to be out of danger.
According to media reports, the attacker was taking shelter at the embassy. He apparently got into Mr Sharma’s office and locked the door from inside, before attacking him with a knife.
Nepal’s foreign affairs spokesperson has condemned the attack.
The acting ambassador is recovering at the King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh, local media reported.
The assailant is in custody of the Saudi Police.
