10 Aug 2016: Police in Nepal have recovered a large quantity of cocaine from a Thai woman who was due to board a flight to Thailand from Trbhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Waranya Kaewpikul was arrested after 3.54 kilogram cocaine was found inside her luggage on Tuesday night.
The 32 year old woman was flying to Thailand via Kuala Lampur, police said.
Nepal Police’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) confiscated the cocaine with estimated international market value of NRs 61.80 million, officers said at a press briefing today. The cocaine was hidden in a ‘false bottom’ of a suitcase, they added.
The accused had arrived in Kathmandu on August 5. Police said preliminary investigations showed that she changed her hotel multiple times during her stay in Nepal.
NCB Chief Jaya Bahadur Chand told media that the Thai national was carrying the contraband for a promised reward of $3,000.
She told police that a Bolivian woman named Rossy Gueddy Toledo Vallejos handed the drug to her on August 7. Twenty nine year old Ms Toledo Vallejos has also been arrested by the authorities.
